Former Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma stormed into multiple record books when he took the field for his franchise against Sunrisers Hyderabad in an IPL league match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on March 27.

The opening batter became the first player to play 200 games for the franchise. He is the third player to play 200 IPL games for a single franchise, after Virat Kohli (RCB) and MS Dhoni (CSK).

Having played for the Deccan Chargers for three years before making the switch to the Mumbai Indians in 2011, Rohit will be playing his 245th IPL match. Only Dhoni has played more IPL matches than him (252).

He is also the only player to play for the Mumbai Indians in 14 editions of the cash-rich, glitzy league. He has also been in the playing XI for all but six matches that MI have played in the IPL since he became a part of the team in 2011.

Rohit has also shone with the bat for the Mumbai Indians. He is the all-time leading run scorer for the Mumbai Indians, raking up more than 5,000 runs for the franchise. In total, Rohit has scored 6,254 runs in the IPL (Mumbai Indians and Deccan Chargers). He is also the second Indian to score a century for the Mumbai team, after Sachin Tendulkar.

Rohit’s 109 against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens in 2012 is the second highest score for MI. He has also registered 50+ scores 35 times, which is another record for the player.

The former captain also has a good record of leading the team from the front. Topping the charts in the number of wins, he has led MI to 87 victories, including five IPL trophies. As a player, he has featured in 111 wins for the franchise. Another feather in Rohit’s cap is the number of man-of-the-match awards - 16 - which is the highest by a single player for the franchise.

Former MI players, including Tendulkar, Pollard, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, etc., sent their wishes to Rohit through the franchise’s official social media account. Rohit was then presented with a special jersey by Tendulkar, which had the number 200 on the back.
